01 / METHOD
How to use this calculator
- Enter the known fabric basis weight.
- Choose GSM or ounces per square yard as the source unit.
- Calculate to see the converted value and practical rounded value.
02 / APPLICATION
Useful for
- Comparing supplier specifications
- Translating US and metric fabric weights
- Checking sampling and costing sheets
03 / BOUNDARIES
Assumptions and limitations
What the estimate assumes
- The input is a mass per area, not total roll weight.
- 1 oz/yd² equals approximately 33.9057 g/m².
What it does not model
- Nominal GSM can differ from tested results due to moisture and manufacturing tolerance.
- This does not infer thickness, density, strength, or suitability.
04 / NOTES
Frequently asked questions
Is 200 GSM always the same thickness?
No. Fiber, yarn, structure, finish, and compression can produce very different thicknesses at the same GSM.
How should I round the result?
Two decimals is useful for conversion; commercial specifications are often rounded more coarsely.
